Lightning Strike Causes Fire At Turtle Back Zoo, Officials Say

A North Jersey zoo erupted in flames after being struck by lightning on Wednesday, Aug. 28, officials said.

West Orange responders got a call from the Turtle Back Zoo saying its Sea Turtle Recovery Building had been struck by lightning around 9:45 p.m., a spokesperson for the town said.

Firefighters and police officers responded and put out the blaze. Essex County Sherriff officers were on scene as well.
